About
Roaring Sun is the latest Folk Rock & Cosmic Country project from Austin-based Songwriter, Larry Llodra. Rooted in introspective storytelling and armed with the evocative power of classic rock and soul, Turn and Wave is a debut that navigates life’s dilemmas and triumphs, spilling them onto tracks that resonate with both aching vulnerability and raw power. The album offers quiet moments of reflection set against the rapturous backdrop of rock’s grandest gestures. Imagine Blood on the Tracks taking a detour through Big Star's basement, with the soulful heartfelt vocal delivery of Gram Parsons.
Roaring Sun's Turn and Wave is an album born on the road. After burning out in corporate America and losing sight of himself, Llodra packed up and took off on a year-long journey across multiple continents. It wasn’t a vacation; it was an unmaking. From the ashes of burnout, he crafted songs while on the road that carry the weight of sweat, tears, and everything sacrificed in the search for self-discovery.
Recorded over a five whirlwind day stint at Cedar Creek Studios in Austin, Llodra along with Producer Bob Hoffnar teamed up with an all-star cast of musicians captured the album live. No auto-tune, no click tracks, no sterile perfection. Just raw, real, human energy pouring out of the room. Drummers Danny Frankel (Fiona Apple, k.d. lang) and Stephen Bidwell (Black Pumas) offer propulsive percussive arrangements that are sculpted perfectly for each song. Billy Masters (Suzanne Vega, Alejandro Escovedo) weaves sharp, hook-filled guitar lines, while bassist Michael St.Clair (Polyphonic Spree, Okkervil River) anchors the tracks with unforgettable grooves that linger long after the music fades. Producer Bob Hoffnar’s pedal steel ties it all together, adding ethereal threads of cosmic twang that elevate the album's sound.
Turn and Wave drops in late Spring 2025 and is for anyone who’s ever felt lost on their way back to self acceptance. With live shows around Austin and a nationwide tour on the horizon, Llodra continues to record and write more music for a follow up release. Roaring Sun is just getting started.
